Make Ads That Are Impossible to Ignore

Have you ever passed by a ground-floor window, and even though you knew it was wrong, you just had to peep inside? Well, I have. And so did the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock.

It’s called Voyeurism – the thrill of watching other people’s private lives, like on reality shows or on social media.

“We are all voyeurs.” Says Hitchcock. “I’ll bet you that nine out of ten people, if they see a man puttering around in his room, will stand there and look.”

Hitchcock used scenes of voyeurism to captivate his audience.

And ad agencies appeal to voyeurs, too, by showing their products in private situations 👇

1. Someone’s Window

To promote a new show, HBO projected a film on a building that “reveals” the life of the people inside.

Toshiba’s LED bulb’s lifetime is 10 years. So they created an ad that shows how a family’s life changes through this period.

2. Personal Letters

A Canadian stationary store ad tells a love story through personal notes that the partners write to each other.

3. Secret Box

Peugeot displayed its new model inside of boxes with peepholes.

And Amnesty International put a real person in a suitcase to fight human trafficking.
