Visual Roulette

Visuals drive more engagement and emotional response than text¹.
But, most copywriters (myself included) think verbally. Here’s the solution:

This technique is called Visual Roulette.

1. Choose a product

choose a product - duckduckgo search engine

2. Browse random visuals

browse random images

This is Unsplash Explore. But I use these visual inspiration websites, too:
• Same Energy
• Flickr
• Booooooom
• Trendland
• r/MostBeautiful
• r/itookapicture
• This Isn’t Happiness
• Random Image Generator

3. Pick an interesting picture

pick an interesting image - waterfall and foliage forming a face

4. Connect it to your product

🧠 My thought process:
Face –> Eyes –> Someone is watching you –> Online Privacy

interesting image of a building that looks like a face, 'feel like you're being watched - duckduckgo'
Note: I don't necessarily use the same image that inspired me.
tree that looks like a face, 'feel like you're being watched? duckduckgo'
luggage that looks like a face, 'feel like you're being watched? duckduckgo'

Visual Roulette helps us make ads that are:

a. Unique
An image that doesn’t belong to your product’s visual universe will stand out.

images that relate to your product vs an interesting image of a mop with a face

b. Interesting
If it made you stop scrolling, it will likely have the same effect on your audience.

c. Creative
Random input (lateral thinking) helps us think outside the box.

💡 Instead of writing the ad, then finding a visual, find a visual and then write the ad.
